The Chinatown Cultural Center Committee (CCCC) is putting together a Reading Room in the community. Chinatown is home to over 12,000 residents and has four schools that serve almost 2,000 students. The neighborhood’s public branch library was demolished over 60 years ago and this growing community continues to strive towards bringing back needed services. The CCCC is a coalition of community members and organizations working to develop a cultural center that will provide intergenerational space for library and informational services, and art, cultural and educational programming.

Kpop in the US

Our American music industry, statistically, is the largest market for music in the world. It holds more than 1/3 of global revenue sales (consumer consumption of both the tangible media [CD’s] and intangible media [MP3’s]) while Japan attracts about 1/5, and the U.K rounds out the top 3 with 10%. These global figures, however, have recently experienced a transformational push from an unlikely competitor: South Korea.

Scapegoating

When American citizens are asked about domestic issues like the availabilities of US jobs, a common response would be that foreign countries, specifically China and India, are stealing jobs. The market advantageously shifts to countries that are competitive, and our American companies are making the decisions to take jobs overseas because labor cost is lower.
