Opportunities
The Chinatown Cultural Center Committee (CCCC) is putting together a Reading Room in the community. Chinatown is home to over 12,000 residents and has four schools that serve almost 2,000 students. The neighborhood’s public branch library was demolished over 60 years ago and this growing community continues to strive towards bringing back needed services. The CCCC is a coalition of community members and organizations working to develop a cultural center that will provide intergenerational space for library and informational services, and art, cultural and educational programming.
The Reading Room is a 700 sq ft community space set up to provide interim programming and library services to the community until the Center is developed. The space is located within the Oak Terrace housing complex and generously provided by the Asian Community Development Corporation (ACDC). There will be over 8,000 donated books available for circulation, educational and cultural events, and a space for displaying historical exhibits and archives.
